Soda Bread Contest Rules

The 2008 soda bread contest takes place Saturday March 8 at T.S. McHugh's Irish Pub & Restaurant. Drop off entries between 12:30 and 2:00PM. Each loaf should be placed in an unmarked paper bag and must be accompanied by an entry form. There is no fee to enter. Each contestant may submit only one entry in each category.

Below each category is a list of permissable ingredients. N.B.: only glorified soda bread may contain baking powder.

1. traditional white Irish soda bread

   • buttermilk (or soured milk)
   • bread soda
   • white flour
   • salt

2. traditional brown Irish soda bread

   • buttermilk (or soured milk)
   • bread soda
   • whole wheat flour
   • salt

3. glorified Irish soda bread

   no ingredient restrictions
